I&M Bank Uganda Chief Executive Officer Robin Bairstow has been awarded the Honorary Fellowship of the Uganda Institute of Banking and Financial Services (UIBFS), the institute's highest recognition, in honour of his contribution to Uganda's banking industry and leadership in advancing the country's financial services sector.
Bairstow received the award during the 13th UIBFS Graduation Ceremony held in Kampala on June 26, joining a select group of banking leaders who have earned the prestigious distinction.
The Honorary Fellowship is conferred on distinguished professionals who have made exceptional contributions to the banking sector while supporting the growth and development of the Uganda Institute of Banking and Financial Services.
Speaking after receiving the award, Bairstow described the recognition as both a personal milestone and a testament to the collective efforts of the I&M Bank Uganda team.
"I am deeply honoured to receive this recognition from the Uganda Institute of Banking and Financial Services. It signifies the importance of building a banking sector that is innovative, resilient and customer-focused. It also reflects the dedication of the team at I&M Bank, whose commitment continues to drive meaningful transformation and deliver lasting value to our customers and the communities we serve," he said.
Bairstow, who joined I&M Bank Uganda in October 2023, has overseen an extensive transformation programme aimed at modernising the bank's operations. Under his leadership, the bank has replaced its core banking system, upgraded its digital platforms, modernised data centres and ATM network, and strengthened its branch network.
The transformation has also translated into improved business performance. According to the bank, I&M recorded nearly eight percent growth during the initial phase of the programme before accelerating to just under 50 percent year-on-year growth in 2025. The growth was driven by double-digit expansion in retail and small and medium enterprise (SME) lending, increased digital customer acquisition, and continued investment in enhancing customer experience.
I&M Bank Head of Marketing and Corporate Communications Annette Nakiyaga said the award reflects the role of strong leadership in fostering innovation and sustainable growth within the financial sector.
"Robin's recognition is well deserved. His leadership has strengthened a culture of innovation, collaboration and excellence across I&M Bank while keeping customers at the centre of our strategy. We are proud of this milestone and remain committed to supporting the continued growth of Uganda's financial services sector," she said.
The graduation ceremony also saw banking professionals receive the Chartered Banker Level II – Executive Banker qualification, which recognises advanced banking expertise, ethical leadership and commitment to continuous professional development.
